"Where to begin. I guess from the beginning is always the best. It was a few months after I got out of the army and moved to Colorado that I was looking for a college to attend and an advisor called me out of the blue and suggested IMI. I met with a rep the next day and was hooked! I had wanted to work in the dental field for quite a while and I felt like this was the perfect opportunity. When I started I was shy, but the instructor soon got me to get over that. All the teachers at IMI were amazing and kept challenging my classmates and I to always do better. "It’s been three years since I’ve graduated from IMI, and I have just celebrated my two year anniversary of having my own business as a Massage Therapist. During my MLT externship, I’ve learned that sympathy means a lot to someone that is hurting and listening skills go a long way when someone needs your help. My experience at Intellitec Medical prepared me for what was to come. Professionalism is everything when someone trusts you with their health and my advice to other students would be to stay focused, be humble and try to learn something from every situation. My extern experience was very enlightening with practical experience and the process of learning procedures to do the job right, not fast. High points during my externship were using what I learned in school and seeing how it helped someone feel better. The low points were not getting paid for all my time and worrying about my finances. While helping others, my greatest fear was making a mistake and yes, mistakes will be made, but you just have to learn from them and move on. I can only recommend that other extern students will know their limits and not be afraid to push themselves to be a better person.
